About Sydney Software Development
We design, build and improve business applications, with proven expertise in Xero integrations and business process automation.
What Sydney Software Development does
Custom software development
We design and build business applications around your requirements, from internal tools to customer-facing products. Our aim is to get you the outcome you need with the least software you have to own.
Integrations and automation
We connect applications and automate work between them, with particular experience in Xero and MYOB integrations. This can reduce repetitive data entry and help teams keep operational and financial information in sync. See our Xero integration services and MYOB integration services.
Improving existing software
We can extend, modernise or stabilise an application your business already depends on. That includes adding features, improving performance and security, addressing technical problems and helping rescue projects that have lost momentum. Read about our software development services.
Architecture, testing and delivery support
We help teams make technical decisions, test software, improve development practices and deploy applications to the cloud. If you already have developers, we can work alongside them with design advice, integration experience or additional delivery capacity.
What makes Sydney Software Development different
We solve complex finance problems
For Hub Australia, we built a process to move revenue and credits between Xero organisations, then added a reporting API that combines profit and loss figures and budgets across their locations. Hub’s finance team reports less time spent on manual reconciliation and fewer errors. Read the Hub Australia case study.
We bring specialist Xero experience
Sydney Software Development is a Xero-approved Developer Partner. If your developers are building an integration, our Xero Integration Playbook gives them a design for authentication, data sync, rate limits and error handling, tailored to your requirements. We deliver it for a fixed price within 10 business days of completing data discovery.
We build long-term relationships
We approach every engagement with the aim of earning the next one. We want you to be happy with the work we deliver and able to rely on it over time. For example, we’ve worked with Western Sydney University for nearly a decade, across bespoke development, platform migrations, application upgrades and technical support.
We take on difficult, messy problems
We like solving the tricky ones, especially when you’ve already been told it’s not possible!
Who we work with
We work with a variety of businesses and their teams, including:
- Operations and finance teams managing manual or repetitive processes.
- Businesses whose off-the-shelf software does not fit a specialised workflow.
- Startups and SaaS companies building a new product or connecting it to accounting and business systems.
- Teams that need reporting across multiple systems or organisations.
- Companies with an existing development team that need software architecture, integration advice or extra engineering support.
Who runs Sydney Software Development?
Joe Niland
Joe Niland founded Sydney Software Development to get businesses the outcome they need with the least software they have to own.
He has built software for more than 20 years across education, finance, telecommunications, recruitment and government.
Joe works directly on many of our projects and leads a team of experienced engineers.
How Sydney Software Development works
Projects start with a 30 to 60 minute discovery call with our principal consultant. We learn about your requirements, answer questions and work out a high-level scope.
If the project is a fit, we prepare a proposal with the scope, fixed price and timeline. Once you approve it, a deposit secures a place in the schedule. The process from first call to confirmed project usually takes one to two weeks.
All our work is fixed price. For custom projects, we agree the scope and price in the proposal. We also offer standardised engagements with a preset scope, price and delivery plan, so you can choose a defined package of work.
